I remember having to download the PitBoss separately for vanilla CivIV, because they came out w/it after the initial release, so if all you have is vanilla civIV you might have to download it. But it comes w/beyond the sword at least, ready to go out of the box, so anyone w/the expansions (I don't have warlords) probably already has it, even if they don't know about it, just look for the file in the main game directory.

Can probably google some nice explanations/instructions on how to use it. IIS 7 is also available on home premium Ive installed it, used it, configured multiple sites on it, as well as installing, php, perl, and python on it. Also Now thanks to stardock I have animated wallpapers so I wouldn't really consider either of those a reason to purchase vista ultimate. I have been disillusioned with the extras available as well.

Bitlocker - dont need it
Language packs - whoppeeeee
Hold em pocker - wow thats me stopped playing half life 2 etc.
Dreamscene - totally pointless unless i want to keep my processor running at 20%
all the time and its a core 2 duo running each core at 3.3 Ghz

Cant they give us something that would actually be worth having such as the animated logon screen, flashier photo, video folders etc as seen in the longhorn concept.

Im thinking that most people who have bought ultimate have fairly high spec machines and so would be able to run fancier graphics etc no probs. For example in the Windows Experience Index my base score is 5.7 and thats my processor.

If they also wanted to redesign the sidebar so it was more configurable and was easier to put system info into it that would be great. Thanks, but myBoard is just a glimps of what can be done with WPF. When Microsoft came with .NET 1.0 and winforms a lot developpers though it was pointless and was eating to much ram compared to native C++ application.

The biggest one is because WPF is something completely new for a windows developper, and it's not easy to learn.
So most of them rather stay on orlder technologies (winform) where they feel more confortable and efficient.
But make no mistake, one day or the other, WPF will prevail, that's for sure !

No where does Microsoft say how many extras would ship nor when they would ship. If they dont send any extras for 5 years so be it. They never said they would have a set amount of extras out a year or any extras out at any given time.

They did say they would put out more language packs and release Deskscapes. Which they did. Other than that there is nothing that has been said about extras. If people buy the OS thinking that they will get all sorts of "EXTRA" goodies that is their fault.

Xp was great.  I use it on most of my PCs.  Vista is better in some ways and worse in others.  I expect the "worse" things to get better . . just like every other app.

This discussion is about the Ultimate extras.  Anyone who bought Ultimate for the extras is/was an idiot in my book.  Those who bought Ultimate for the featureas of Home Premium + Business may have made a good choice (based on thier needs).

And for what it's worth . . no matter what my relationship is with Stardock, I bought my own OS, my WC subscription, and ODNT.  I speak my mind about the products I purchase.

Marketing them as they did, MS implies that you are getting these things for free in addition to the core feature set.  By doing it this way they owe you nothing.  More extras would be nice. . . but I doubt you'll see much more.

Where's the buggy product? I've got the necessary hardware and have been using Vista for a year and i love it...much less buggy than my experience with XP. Not that XP was super buggy, but I've found Vista much more stable, less crashing, less rebooting than XP. I honestly feel that most people with Vista are very happy and just can't be bothered to say so...those with problems make a big noise....this is nothing new....

If you are happy with XP then stick with it and stop bashing Vista. I love Vista but don't bash XP, which in my experience was more buggy than my present Vista setup. Live and let live guys, there is room for all of us

In particular, I don't see this defensive emphasis feature. Civ IV wins through military conquest are nearly always fast and dramatic. Not the one-turn artillery wins of Civ 3, but perfectly reasonable. Diplomatic, Cultural, Religious, and Spaceship wins are all doable relatively equally.

AI behavior is superb. Not as great as GalCiv2, but the tech trading protocols are definitely a notch above. GalCiv developers need to give this game a lookover as a model for a working tech-trading paradigm. AIs can be made to hate each other through various means, and each point is a solid and encoded thing and be aimed at as a concrete goal. In fact, Monarch and higher players will tell you that Diplomacy is a necessary skill and activity at any level above Prince.

I just bought CIV IV complete...all the addons are there, so you should get that if you want the game. I still have to play it so i can't really tell. I still play CIV III conquest on a regular basis (still haven't finished all the conquests).
