Cyberspace & Bushido...
Greetings everyone.

Anybody else having trouble with IconPackager not properly changing the icon for internet shortcuts? They still display the default Explorer document's 'e' icon. Very frustrating.

Local .htm and .html files are properly substituted, but the internet shortcuts are not. Doesn't matter if they are created by Firefox or by Internet Explorer or by creating a new shortcut on the desktop via the right-click menu -- They are all the sucky Explorer 'e' icon!

Rebuilding the cache, etc., does nothing.  I'm using the latest version of Icon Packager; Windows XP SP2.

I'd appreciate any help.  Thanks!

It isn't just an IE problem. I recently applied a package and the icons updated (as expected) But when I removed the package and reset it to "Windows Default" I got blank page icons for my internet and email on the start menu. When I click them, it says "Can't find blah blah... would you like to remove this link?" I use Firefox and Thunderbird, and I went into the properties and changed it to IE and Live Mail, and those icons appeared properly. I uninstalled IconPackager, and no luck.

Yes, I can confirm that indeed. This is not only FF/TM problem, it's everywhere. Many file types change to those one set with IP, *only* after standard program for opening is set (like IE for html files in Windows). But the same thing happens for me with .iso (set icon only shows with Nero, not when set to open with for ex. Daemon), .txt/.nfo/.ini (only works with Notepad, not OpenOffice) and many others. This is really annoying.

I second that confirmation, really annoying. A known issue since Sep. 2006? 2 years, man thats a lotta slack. $20 for another bug I guess.

I found a temporary solution to manually fix the IE icon regardless of version for those using WIN7. I say this is a temporary fix in the expectation that the company will fix the problem properly. I'm sure some clever user can find an approximate temporary solution for earlier versions of windows.

1) go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer   or whatever path goes to your IE application.

2) Right Click on the IE application icon.

3) Select Properties, then go to the Icons tab.

4) Click on the Change Icon button and select the theme you want the icon to match from the list on the left

5) Search through the icons till you find the Internet icon and select it as the default Icon.

6) Remove any IE shortcuts on your desktop or pinned to your taskbar and replace them with the new IE icon.

Nowadays I have been experiencing a similar problem with Icon Packager 5 and I also need help. Although I have tried many times, Icon Packager 5 insists on screening different Desktop and folder icons, which I haven't selected. I want to know what the source of this problem is. How can I overcome this problem? Is there anyone suffering from the same problem?

does Icon Packager 3.20 also have this problem? If not, I am planning to downgrade.

Hello,

Had this problem for years on various XP systems.  Still do have this problem.  IP does not apply skins to desktop icons for internet shortcuts, or program start shortcuts.  Sure would like a fix.  Without fixing this annoying problem it makes no sense to upgrade to version 5.  Thanks.
